I am the happy owner of two prototype Monitor 7 Polk Audio speakers.
I purchased 4 RTi6 speakers used as follows:

Using the two monitor 7 speakers for left and right channels, 1 RTi6 for
a center channel (These speakers sit on top of a large cabinet located
in the corner of a log house close to the ceiling), 2 more of the RTi6 speakers are used for surround left and right and the remainig RTi6 is
used for the rear channel. The surround left, right, and rear RTi6 speakers are mounted on log walls at almost ceiling hight. A powered subwoofer is located behind the corner cabinet. All is driven by an Onkyo TX-SR575. The RTi6 speakers were chosen because they are wall mountable
and narrow enough to mount between a rock hearth and a window frame.
Sounds great for home theater surround and casual music listening.

Everyone has problems. big problems, small problems, problems, work, relationship problems, choose an area of your life and probably have at least one, or to have one.

have at any point along the route of the problems you get some training. I know a bit 'of this type of training, I visited some and some taught as well.

In all these working groups, or in any book you read on this subject, you get some great ideas. You may also have some very strongTools for solving organizational problems of large meaty.

This is not the point of this article.

Rather, I share with you at seven bases. Regardless of your past experience to solve problems with highly structured instruments and not, everything starts with the basics. And often the key you need it most – when there is urgency in front of you and cause frustration, stress or pressure.

These seven principles will help in anyproblem-solving situation, and moves toward better solutions, less stress and more confidence.

The seven principles

It 's a problem?

First things first. The situation is faced with a problem really? This may be elementary, but if you can not define what you want (and everything you think you're different from what you have) is not a problem. This gap between what you have and what helps define the problem. If you can not find a space, or have obtained ago over the situation – you are worrying or complaining for no good reason.

Call it.

The gap is just defined, it helps you, but to solve a problem, big or small, you should describe the situation, the problem in a brief statement. Speaking of things help to determine the problem, but now you must write the name and problem. This provides clarity and focus – two things often lacking in problem-solving activities.

What is theCause?

Too often we react to the symptoms of a problem without understanding the real cause. Focusing on symptoms is not able to solve the problem, and may get worse. Take time to get boring cause.

Slow Down (enough).

Take time to understand the cause of the problem is the slowdown, but no more. Good problem solving requires some planning. Note that none of the points are so far "Solution steps", but "planning for the solution"Steps. You need to plan appropriately in any situation problem. The balance is that you slow down enough to create a solid plan effective, but not so much that you move to a solution.

Approached.

For a better understanding of the problem and create an effective solution must be to dive into the details of the situation. You may need to ask some questions, collect some data and a bit 'of a detective. In other words, sometimes you need to understand to be closer to the problem, getcompletely.

Take a step back.

The perspective is also necessary. If this is your problem, and what you have pain, anxiety, stress, embarrassment, or any other emotion you can have a better perspective. Consider a step back, both physically and mentally. Look at it logically and in the third person, if possible. Thinking from the perspective of others (other services, is a member of staff, family, customers – or anyone else involved in this specific problem). The perceptualhelp create better solutions.

Get help.

The Lone Ranger had Tonto. Holmes had Watson. This is true not only in books or on television. Get help in your efforts to solve problems. Of course, you can do it on bigger problems, but also in smaller situations often can provide other ideas, perspectives and help you not find for themselves.

All these work units for the individual (like you and me) … And … there is a clear lesson here for leadersOthers Six memory the teaching of these bases and, above all, and team members?

Often, the basics to help people to move faster than the detailed processes documented by laboratory binder gathering dust on the shelf.

Use the detailed process, if necessary, we must remember, always start with the basics.

JVC EX-A10 100-Watt DVD Executive Microsystem with Sake-Soaked Speakers Review

I only use this unit to play CDs in the bedroom, not for surround sound. Considering that it’s just a Japanese mini system the sound is excellent, equal to an entry level hi-fi. The music is detailed and lively and the soundstage has depth. It even presents a solid image between and behind the speakers -when they’re properly placed. The sound is warm, not fatiguing and overall works great for jazz. This little system even looks chic. The price seems a little high until one considers that it’s about a third of the Arcam Solo system.

It’s far from perfect though. The speaker’s pretty but thin walled construction reflect cost cutting, also their sound markedly emphasizes the lower midrange and is a little rolled off on top. This gives it a warm euphonic sound but it also makes Ricky Lee Jones sound a bit like Nina Simone for example. The tuner is a disappointment and the remote is way too complicated. The JVC is a best suited for someone who cares most of CD sound quality over everything else, and who needs a compact “all in one CD player” for well under a thousand dollars.

JVC EX-A10 100-Watt DVD Executive Microsystem with Sake-Soaked Speakers Feature

  • Compact home theater system with brushed aluminum DVD player, matching receiver, and 2 speakers
  • Supports DVD Video, DVD Audio, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, and MP3/WMA-CD formats
  • Bi-amplified cherry-finished speakers with sake-soaked birch wood cones for warm, natural sound
  • Hybrid Feedback digital amplifier generates high power output and low distortion levels; AM/FM tuner
  • Analog and optical digital audio inputs; component, S-video, and composite video outputs; 1-year warranty

JVC EX-A10 100-Watt DVD Executive Microsystem with Sake-Soaked Speakers Overview

JVC EXA10 100 Watt DVD Executive Micro System with Woodcone Speakers

JVC EX-A10 100-Watt DVD Executive Microsystem with Sake-Soaked Speakers Specifications

Outfit your bedroom or den with a compact home theater setup while adding a little style in the process with the JVC EX-A10 executive DVD microsystem. The elegantly designed unit includes two diminutive components–a brushed aluminum receiver and matching DVD player–that occupy about the same space as a typical laptop computer. More importantly, the EX-A10 plays all the formats common to much larger systems, including DVD Video, DVD Audio, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, and MP3/WMA files burned on a CD, while fitting easily on a bookshelf or desktop. All you need to complete the home theater setup is a TV.

What truly sets the EX-A10 apart, however, are its solid cherry-finished speakers, each of which features a solid wood speaker cone. Wood is an ideal speaker material, as its acoustic properties deliver a warm, natural sound. But it’s also difficult to press wood sheets into cone shapes without cracking the wood. JVC overcame this problem with an unlikely solution: sake, or Japanese rice wine. JCV engineers discovered that when soaked in sake, a birch wood sheet becomes soft and pliable enough to press into a split-free speaker cone. As a result, each speaker houses a 3.19-inch wood cone mid/bass driver and a wood dome tweeter, which combine to deliver an inviting, realistic audio performance. Listeners can also remove the speakers’ black, semi-transparent grilles to show off the birch wood material.

To ensure theater-like audio performance from such a small system, JVC included its Hybrid Feedback digital amplifier, a compact, highly efficient amp that generates high power output and low distortion levels. The system is also bi-amplified, with 30-watts-per-channel power driving the mid/bass speakers and 20 watts per channel driving the tweeters. A final audio enhancement stems from JVC’s K2 and CC Converter technologies–also found in the company’s top-end receivers–which are designed to improve the sound quality of both CDs and digital music files like MP3 and WMA.

Additional features include two-channel decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS surround signals, an AM/FM tuner with a clock and sleep timer (the alarm wakes to either a CD or the radio), and a full-function remote control. Plus, the EX-A10 includes several audio and video jacks, including both analog and optical digital audio inputs and component, S-video, and composite video outputs. Finally, the system carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

What’s in the Box
DVD player, receiver, two speakers, remote control, speaker cables, user’s manual.

Energy C-100 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) Review

These are smart looking quality built American speakers, I bought to match to my 25 x2 Watt rms system. Thy aren’t the most efficient speakers, @ 87 DB 1w/m sensitivity and are reflex loaded, rear ported. They give a nice warm tone to music. The speakers are supplied with foam port plugs, should you want to reduce the bass volume (then they sound like most other small bookshelf speakers!). They have separate posts at the back for bi-wiring. The sound staging is excellent, and the treble is not too in your face, and will suit a large variety of music. I’m told these are very similar in tone to many european speakers.

Very happy with these.

Components: 1″ Aluminum Dome Tweeter
5-1/2″ Composite Fiberglas cone

Speaker System: Bass Reflex, Rear Vented

Usable Response: -10 dB Anechoic @ 50 Hz
Anechoic Sensitivity: 87 dB

Energy C-100 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) Feature

  • Pair of compact 2-way design speakers
  • Each is equipped with a 5.5″ composite fiberglas woofer and one 1″ chambered aluminum dome tweeter
  • Frequency response: 55Hz-20kHz +/- 3 dB
  • Magnetically shielded
  • Included rubber bumpers for shelf standing

Energy C-100 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) Overview

Energy has managed to outdo itself once again. Legendary in the audio industry for making some of the best speakers, Energy has created the Energy C-100 speaker set; a true jewel. This compact 2-way design is ingenuous, such that it can be placed in a multitude of locations or installations and still deliver incredible sonic results. Thanks to its physical dimensions it can be stand mounted, bookshelf mounted or permanently installed on a wall thanks to its integrated Macromount(TM) insert [Energy Macromount(TM) bracket is required, sold separately]. This flexibility has been integrated into the physical, aesthetic and acoustic design, further demonstrating Energy’s attention to detail and functionality. The hand rubbed high gloss piano finish is both classy and contemporary, alluding to the quality of fit and finish. Whether installed as a front, side or surround channel, the C-100 is always at ease. The quality of components used within are second to none, allowing for astonishing reproductions. Easy to drive with almost any amplifier, they are also magnetically shielded so as to not interfere with your television. Their braced MDF enclosures are rigid and resonance free, allowing the drivers to perform as intended. Even more impressive is the quantity and quality of low frequencies this speaker is capable of delivering. The C-100, ideal for any application, in any situation.

A Burning Desire

Posted in Bookshelf Speaker Articles | No Comments »

“Mommy, he’s doing it again.” I yelled as I came running into the kitchen where I knew I would find Mother. I was so angry–no MAD–that I was breathing like a wild animal. “Shawn is taking my toys apart, again. I hate him. I hate him.”

“Honey, don’t say that. You know you don’t hate him.”

“But he keeps tearing my stuff up,” I whined. “Stop him, Mommy, stop him.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her with me so that she would catch him in the act.

We found him sitting in the middle of the rug in his room with my toys half apart, half together.

“Boy, I have told you a million times–stop breaking your sisters toys.”

“But, Mom, I’m not breaking them,” he says proudly as he shows her what he was doing with my Close and Play. “I’m just trying to see how they put it together. I’ll fix it back,” he said with confidence.

“You better fix it back, Big Head,” I yelled with a frown.

“Stop it, Dawn. Shawn, you better fix it back just the way you found it” my mother said.

“Nah nah,” I whisper behind my mother’s back as she turned to leave. Of course, I had to stick my tongue out at him, too.

Shawn had a habit of taking everything apart in the house. I don’t care what it was; he was taking it apart to see if he could put it back together again. The funny thing is he was always able to fit it back exactly the way it was. He couldn’t have been more than 5 years old when this incident occurred. I was 7.

Not only did he take toys apart and put them back together, he would take apart appliances, furniture, electrical equipment, stereos, tape recorders, cars and anything else that came in or around the house–just to see if he could put it back together again.

While most boys his age were outside running and playing, he was inside with tools–fixing things.

For Christmas, every year, his request was always the same–he wanted tools.

He started with toy tools, but each year, his request became more sophisticated.

By the time he was 10 years old he had created and built his own lamps for his bedroom and a sturdy, seven level bookshelf for the Family Room that still stands till this day,

Whenever someone in our neighborhood broke something on their bike, he would whip out his tools which he wore, at all times, around his belt and fix it. It wasn’t long before he put the Bicycle Shop in our area out of business.

He never charged anyone for his “services.” He simply LOVED what he did.

When we decided to turn an empty, abandoned garage into a Club

House–Shawn turned this burned down shack into a lavish, but small, home. When someone finally bought the home that sat on this property, they turned the Club House that he built, into a guest house.

By the time he reached 13, because of his love and desire to fix things, especially electrical things, my father had a talk with one of his friends who were an Electrician by profession.

My father arranged that my brother would become an apprentice and work, at the age of 13, as an electrician.

Every Saturday morning, my Dad’s friend, would stop by the house and pick up my brother for work.

My brother LOVED it. Every Saturday night, he would rush in the house full of excitement, giving my brother and I full details of everything that he had discovered that day.

To be honest with you, neither me nor my brother were all that enthused or excited about his “adventures.” Fixing things simply didn’t thrill me. But he was so excited we couldn’t help but get drawn in.

Today, he is still an Electrician and runs his own business, Current Control. He also does construction and some carpentry work.

The other day I was talking with my brother on the phone and I asked him if there was ever anything else that he wanted to do with his life.

He said that if he couldn’t do what he was doing, he didn’t know what he would do. There was nothing else that excited him more than being able to bring light to somewhere, where there weren’t any light before he arrived.

His statement got me to thinking about DESIRE and how important it is in order for us to completely live our dreams.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many beatings and punishments my brother received from taking things apart in our house. (Yes, I said “beatings.” My parents are African-American and come from the old school where we got “whipped.) I thought my father was going to kill him when he came home from work to find the brand, new 50 inch screen television with its insides on the floor and my brother with a look of horror on his face to see that Daddy arrived home early from work. But no matter how many times he was punished, he never stopped doing it. He couldn’t help himself. He had a BURNING DESIRE to fix things.

If you punished him and sent him to his room, when you came to check on him, he would have the electrical sockets that are in the wall–out of the wall trying to put it back together again. If you took away his tools, he would use a butter knife–there was no stopping him.

If you ever study the life of successful people, they always have a BURNING DESIRE to live their dreams. When you have a burning desire, there is nothing that will stop you. No amount of set backs, outside influence, negativity, punishments or beatings will stand in your way. If you have a burning desire and you seek help from God and believe, without a shadow of a doubt that God will make a way for you–a way will be made.

If you want to quickly manifest your dreams and change your life, you must first, develop a BURNING DESIRE to do so.

Solomon had a burning desire to live a life that was pleasing to God. In 2 Chronicles 1:10, Solomon says to God, 10 give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

11 God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”

ACTION POINT: Find your passions and develop a burning desire. Ask God for guidance and believe with all your heart that your dreams are now manifesting; listen to that quiet still voice that has all the answers you are seeking and DO -TAKE ACTION and in no time, all of your dreams and desires will be a reality.

A Thumbnail Sketch of the Importance of Speaker Stands

Posted in Bookshelf Speaker Articles | No Comments »

Audio visual enthusiasts know that getting the right stand for their speakers can be as important as getting the right speaker. Speakers can only give their best results when they are placed correctly and are able to sit without any unnecessary movement.

Speakers are not designed to transmit sound through stands so stands need to be sturdy. A good stand should isolate the speaker from the floor and the floor from the speaker. Some stands have spikes on their feet which help to give added stability and to reduce the surface area of the stand that touches the floor. Furthermore, the added rigidness that spikes provide will help the performance of the woofer However, floor-standing speakers should not use spikes unless necessary. Spikes (or any other rigid floor coupling) increase the amount of vibration transferred between the floor and cabinet in both directions. By all means, use spikes if you need to increase static friction and prevent lateral movement of the speakers but consider using rubber bumpers to decouple the speaker from the floor.

Counter intuitively, “Bookshelf” speakers do not sound good if placed in a bookshelf as some might think. Obviously, speakers are designed to only produce sound through the front but they will also produce sound through whatever they are placed on or near.

As a general rule, speaker stands should be rigid to stop any unnecessary vibration and have as little contact with the ground as possible to stop sound being passed through anything but the air. Speaker stands should also be stable for more practical purposes: speakers are expensive and f you have children or animals running around, you do not want your speakers to fall off and break. Speakers stands should have some mass to them as a high-mass stand will stop your speakers from moving unnecessarily.

Ideally, the stand should bring the speaker’s tweeter to ear level. If you sit down when listening to music, ensure that the stand is around 3 feet tall. As well as being better placed by the tweeter, the stand will have the effect of improving lower frequency sound thus giving you a better all-round sound than you would have without.

Polk Audio RTI A3 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) Review

Over the past few months I’ve been replacing my speakers, going from a piecemeal 5.1 setup with a Boston Acoustic center, Bose surrounds, and old Altec 3-way fronts to an all new setup using the RTi-A series from Polk: Polk Audio RTI A7s for my fronts, a Polk Audio CSI A6 Center Channel, and these RTi-A3s for rears. I also bought a Polk Audio PSW505 subwoofer to round the system out, which I previously reviewed. I’ve had these RTi A3s for 2-3 weeks now, so I’ve had a chance to break them in a bit – and I’m very impressed with the sound and performance. I tested these out as the main speakers on my receiver when I first got them and I was surprised at how full the sound was for such a small unit. These are rated at 50Hz -3dB limit, so there is very little bass lost except at the ultra low-end, all things considered. Needless to say these are pure Polk, and as such the mid- and high-range response is excellent. When pushed they can get a bit shrill, but that’s only when I really peg it (I’m running these through a Yamaha RX-V1800). I should note that both music and entertainment sound great; these are not one-dimensional units at all.
The fit and finish are excellent, with a stylish curved cabinet design finished in black oak and a pewter-accented grille. The product is sturdy and well-built although not too heavy (16 lb. each).
Overall this is a great speaker at a great price. Fantastic serving as rears, but these little guys are more than adequate as fronts if you don’t have space for the bigger models – the A5s, A7s and A9s are all over 40″ tall, while these stand just 14.5″ – just make sure you get a sub. I’m very pleased with the sound quality for the money, as these speakers sound better than anything else in this price range. Heartily recommended.

Curious About The Power of Questions – What Are You Asking Yourself?

Posted in Bookshelf Speaker Articles | No Comments »

“#12. What would I attempt if I knew I could not fail?” – from Michael Angier’s list of 101 Best New Year Questions

This is the time of year that we start asking ourselves questions – or at least I do – about the year that is just about over and the New Year starting. Did we accomplish all we planned and wanted to – or even more? And, what questions will be pertinent for the upcoming year?

Will we have some of the same goals (or resolutions) or brand new and lofty ones?

How about you? Do you ask yourself those hard questions, like “#10. What isn’t working that should be working?” Or, how would you feel about some questions that probe into who you are and that “confront ethical dilemmas in a concrete rather than an abstract form.”

Rediscovering (on my own bookshelf) Gregory Stock’s “The Book of Questions,” I have been experiencing fun, discovery and lots of soul searching. Way back in the late 80s when I was an active Toastmaster, I often used questions from this gem for Table Topics.

“206. Would you be willing to eat a bowl of live crickets for $40,000?”
“132. If you went to a beach and it turned out to be a nude beach, would you stay and go swimming? Would you swim nude?”
“121. Were you able to wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, would you do so? Whom would you pick?”
“79. For $20,000 would you go for three months without washing, brushing your teeth, or using deodorant? Assume you could not explain your reasons to anyone, and that there would be no long-term effect on your career?”

And then Stock has many deeper and life-direction questions, for example:

“135. Which would you prefer: a wild, turbulent life filled with joy, sorrow, passion, and adventure – intoxicating successes and stunning setbacks; or a happy, secure, predictable life surrounded by friends and family without such wide swings of fortune and mood?”
“68. When has your life dramatically changed as the result of some seemingly random external influence? How much do you feel in control of your life?”
“35. Would you give up half of what you now own for a pill that would permanently change you so that one hour of sleep each day would fully refresh you?”

The copy of the book that I own was published in 1987, so I began to wonder about Dr. Gregory Stock and what he is now doing. A quick search on Google made it easy.

Dr. Gregory Stock currently directs the Program on Medicine, Technology, and Society at UCLA’s Medical School, where he is a visiting professor. He is also a senior fellow at the Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life. He co-organized the first major symposium on human germ line engineering in 1998, and he continues to speak often on radio and television.

His latest book, “Redesigning Humans,” discusses the impact of genomics and bioinformatics on future human evolution. He is also known for his thought-provoking value-clarifying questions. “The Book of Questions,” now in its 55th printing, has sold over 2 million copies and been translated into 17 languages.

I also checked on Amazon.com and he has other types of Questions books. So, treat yourself, and don’t forget during this busy holiday season to ask yourself some important – and also fun – questions.
